It’s interesting, but often as wedding officiants we have the privilege (and sometime the challenge) of serving brides and grooms when “the family” isn’t part of the wedding day!!! Horror Strikes and ‘parents-in-laws’ are NOT too thrilled with you choice of mates. As we’ve just celebrated Haloween last week, you’ll be happy to know October 31 is not just about costumes and candy, it’s also called “Reformation Day”.
The quote below is by the “Father of the Reformation”, Martin Luther. Nearly 500 years ago he made some statements that changed the Protestant church forever, and also changes to his personal life. He forsook his vows of chastity and got married to an ex-nun (imagine that news in the headlines). The pair of them went on to live many happy married years together, and set an example to couples of all religious inclinations.
Martin Luther King, Jr is better known to many of us, and this is the man he was named for. A man who broke the rules of convention to marry the woman he loved.
What about you… are you marrying the man or woman you really love? Will you break the rules… Will you dare to stand alone… Will be the man or woman who really means ‘forever’? Why not change history? You won’t be alone! You’ll be in good company with Luther, as well and Robert & Elizabeth Browning, and of course, who can forget about Romeo and Juliet… and the countless millions of brides and grooms who fell in love and allowed it the change ‘their world’ and the world around them!
Go get em………
